FAQ's
Who can enroll for
surfing lessons?
Anybody between the
ages of 12 to 50
without serious
health problems. If
you do not meet
these requirements, please
e-mail
us so we
can discuss these
issues.
What are some dangerous
elements with
regards to
surfing?
The most dangerous
things are the
shallow reefs and
sea urchins. Do not
dive from your head
when you fall from
your surfboard. We
provide reef boots
for each student,
but still recommend
that you do not stand on the
reef.
What is included in
the each lesson?
Surfing instruction (about 2 hours);pick up and
drop off service to and from
your hotel; and all
rental equipments
for surfing
(surfboard, leash,
rash guard, reef
boots). The price also
includes Hawaii tax,
insurance, and even
free photos of you
surfing!
I cannot swim. Can I
still take
lessons?
You are not required
to be a good
swimmer. The longest
distance you will
actually swim is the
length of the leash,
which is about 10
feet. If you can
tread water
without touching the
sea bottom, you have
enough water skill
for a surfing
lesson.
Can I book a lesson
the night
before?
Only if we still
have an opening
available. We
take only 10
students each day in
order to maintain
the quality of our surf
lessons.
We
recommend that you
book your lesson as early as you
can, so you can get
the date and time
you want and this
helps us to be
better
prepared for
you, too.
Do I need to do
anything the night
before to be ready
for the day of my
lesson?
Get a good night's
sleep and do not
drink too many alcoholic
beverages.
This will allow you
to be in
the best condition
for your surfing
lesson
the next day.
Remember, surfing
consumes a lot of
energy from you.
Can
I eat
before my lesson?
Please do not overeat before surfing-
your stomach
shouldn't be full.
Avoid eating foods
that are very oily or
fatty right
before the lesson.
@
What should I wear?
Wear a bathing suit and beach
slippers or sandals.
Students will be
provided with a rash
guard and reef
boots.
Will the waves be big?
For beginners, the
waves will not be
over 2 feet tall.
We choose the
most suitable surf
points-
usually on the South side
of the island. In
case the waves get
too big for
novice surfers, we
will reschedule
the lesson. Safety is the
most important issue
for
us.
I'm worried about
getting seasick...
Some people
will experience seasickness
in the motion of the
waves.
To avoid getting seasick,
eat lightly and avoid
eating
oily foods and
citrus fruits such
as
oranges and
pineapples. Also, if
you have had
previous problems
with seasickness, you
may want to take an
over-the-counter
medication such as
dramamine.
What do I have to
bring to my lesson?
Please
bring
a change of clothes, a
towel, sunscreen, and a bottle
of water. Do not bring
any
valuables.
Do you have
a
cancellation policy?
Yes, we do. If you
cancel within 24 hours
of the starting
time of your lesson,
there will be no cancellation
charge. However, if
you cancel after that,
or do not show up
for your
lesson, you will
be charged the full
price of the lesson.
